Councillor Margaret Toner saw for herself the great work being carried out in relation to prevention and early intervention work by South Ayrshire Council’s own Community Learning and Development (CLD) team in Maybole when she paid them a visit.

Their work was featured in a recent report by Community Learning and Development Managers Scotland, it contained a case study ‘Getting parents involved in children’s PEEP Learning Together programme in Maybole’ which highlights good practices.

Councillor Margaret Toner, Lifelong Learning Portfolio Holder for the Council said: “The work carried out in Maybole by the Carrick and CLD team has helped to improve the quality of life for many children and parents.

“Working in partnership with other organisations has helped to ensure that support, advice and guidance are available when required. So successful has this programme been that we are now delivering PEEP programmes across South Ayrshire.”

PEEP recognises that parents and carers are children’s first and most important educators and aims to support adults to give their children a flying start in life. The PEEP ’Learning Together’ programme offers ideas and information to support children’s learning through everyday activities and encourages children and adults to be confident learners. For an hour each week parents come along with their child and sing songs, share books, play together and share information and ideas about their learning.

Community Learning and Development staff deliver the PEEP Programme in the community with groups for Babies, One year olds and Two year olds. For more information about Community Learning and Development’s PEEP provision call 01465 716600 or 01292 559429.
