Pinwherry bridge damaged months after being fully restored by council
A ROAD bridge on the A714 at Pinwherry has once again been damaged just months after being fully restored by South Ayrshire Council after being damaged by traffic.
Pinmore and Pinwherry community councillor Jim Guthrie said that the damage was caused when traffic was diverted onto the road on Tuesday last week when the A77 was closed due to the finding of nearly 50 World War Two bombs at Cairnryan.
Mr Guthrie said: "Our bridge at Pinwherry, which was badly damaged earlier in the year, and was beautifully restored by South Ayrshire Council in the past month, has once again been bumped.
"On Tuesday of last week the A77 was closed at Cairnryan and traffic diverted via Newton Stewart and Pinwherry, on the A714.
"Some of the vehicles were far too long to negotiate this very rural road.
"Two in particular got stuck; firstly on the Pinwherry bridge and then the bridge at Daljarock.
"Here they had to a wait for Amy machinery to get them unstuck.
"In the process both bridges were damaged. When are the authorities going to waken up to this problem and stop extra long lorries using this route which is not fit for their purpose?
"These bridges are essential for our way of life, without them those of us who live down the A714 are in serious trouble."
