Road will close for A77 upgrade

THE A77 Stranraer to Fenwick trunk road will see vital improvements to the road surface between Sandyford and Whitletts roundabouts after resurfacing works get underway tomorrow (Thursday).

The section of the road, which is close to Prestwick International Airport, will see £160,000 worth of work take place during the works.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will carry out the repairs to the surface on the southbound lane of this busy stretch of road which has now expired.

This is intended not only to prolong the lifespan of the road, but also reduce the need for disruption to the travelling public in the future.

In total, 576 metres of road will be replaced. The works will result in a complete closure of the southbound carriageway between both roundabouts from 6am on Friday February 8, reopening before 5am on Monday February 11. A contraflow will be in place through the works.

In order to implement the contraflow system, an overnight total closure of the northbound carriageway between Whitletts and Sandyford will be needed between 8pm tomorrow and 6am on Friday.

During this time, traffic on the A77 northbound will be diverted at Whitletts Roundabout on to B743 Heathfield Road, from there turn right on to the A79 Ayr Road, then continue on A79 through Prestwick and continue on A79 passing Prestwick Airport.

At Monktonhead Roundabout, take 2nd exit onto A78 and continue to Dutchhouse Roundabout to rejoin A77.
