Ryan Centre goes digital
The Ryan Centre Cinema in Stranraer has changed from showing 35mm film to digital projection.
The new equipment was used for the first time last Thursday for showing “Ice Age 4” at 6pm and “Magic Mike” at 8pm.
Film audiences at the Ryan Centre Cinema will now be able to enjoy 3-D films as well as live and pre-recorded programmes. Key sports events, stadium concerts, and theatre and opera live from major venues can also be shown.
Councillor Roberta Tuckfield, chairwoman of Wigtown Area Committee, said: “I am delighted that the area committee had been able to help fund the upgrade to digital at the Ryan Centre Cinema. This is exactly the kind of project that we should be supporting.”
The Ryan Centre Cinema has been showing films on a fortnightly basis since 1994. The aim has always been to offer audiences mainstream films as near to their release date as possible and this will continue to be the case now that the very latest equipment is installed.
The upgrade to digital equipment means that the town’s cinema goers can look forward to films being shown even sooner than has been the case in the past.
Films will be shown next – on Thursday, September 6 – and the programme is “The Amazing Spider-Man in 3D” and “The Dark Knight Rises”.
