The highly successful Fitba Maybole programme is due to re-launch as ‘The Second Half’ this month.
The ‘first half’ of the programme resulted in a total weight loss of 9st 5lbs from the 15 participants over a 12 week period.
Sessions will be held on Monday evenings from 7-9.15pm at Carrick Academy from August 25 till October 6 and will have an introductory programme of health assessments, lifestyle advice and exercise, followed by footballing activities from 8.15-9.15pm led by a Scottish FA qualified coach from the Ayr United Football Academy.
Alan Murray, who coordinates the programme on behalf of Maybole Community Council, said: “This has been a marvellous project with real, tangible results for the participants.
“We hope to build on this for the Second Half and each of the previous participants has been asked to bring a friend. We are confident that the Second Half will be a great success.”
Shaun Ferrie, Football Development Officer of the Academy, added: “It has been a great opportunity to improve the health and wellbeing of adults in Maybole and we have enjoyed being a partner in this very successful project.”
The programme is funded by the Big Lottery and is a partnership project involving Ayr United Football Academy, South Ayrshire Council, Maybole Men’s Health Forum and is led by Maybole Community Council.
