Snow warning for Scotland as winter weather closes in

SCOTLAND is on the alert for snow as a yellow warning across almost the entire country is issued for the start of next week.

Met Office forecasters today announced a yellow weather warning for snow in four out of five Scottish regions for Monday, when up to 10cm of the white stuff is predicted to fall on higher ground.

Only Orkney and Shetland are expected to remain untouched as a frontal system causing rain, sleet and hill snow reaches northwest Scotland and spreads southwards throughout the day.

The public are being warned that showers in the north and east during Sunday will increase the risk of icy roads and disruption to travel on Monday morning.

As yet Strathclyde has not been issued with an ice warning for Sunday afternoon, but three of Scotland’s five weather regions - including the adjacent Southwest Scotland region - have been warned to be on the alert.

An additional 13 areas across the UK have been placed on yellow alert for snow on Monday, while ice is expected in nine of 15 regions on Sunday.
