'Snowball killer' stabbed in prison

THE man who murdered Maybole shopkeeper Amjid Ismail has been stabbed 17 times in Shotts Prison, Lanarkshire.

John McGeechan - dubbed the 'Snowball Killer' after his vicious crime - was attacked last month as he slept in his bunk.

The lifer was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where he needed staples and stitches in his face and body, before returning to the jail.

A prison source told the Sunday Mail this week: "No one is shedding any tears over McGeeghan but the bosses in the prison have ordered a big investigation.

"His cell was covered in blood and he was in a right mess - they've patched him up but he'll be scarred for life.

"McGeeghan is saying he doesn't know who did it and there will be no shortages of suspects given his past crimes."

It was also reported in the Sunday Mail that the attack on heroin addict McGeeghan had taken place place after prisoners' cells had been opened to let them carry out their morning duties.

Prison officers only discovered the attack when they found the blood-stained glass jar on the landing.

They carried out a search and found the injured McGeeghan slumped on a bed in his cell.

McGeeghan was ordered to serve at least 20 years for murdering Amjid in November 2006 after a botched attempt to rob the store.
