South Ayrshire youth scene heats up with creation of Hot 100
A YOUTH focus group in South Ayrshire promises to be hot stuff as 100 youngsters are sought to take part.
Set up by the South Ayrshire Youth Forum, the new group will be made up of people aged between 12 and 25 whose views will directly assist in developing services, events and activities for the young people of the county.
As well as making a valuable contribution to shaping the work of the SAYF, becoming a member of the Hot 100 can also benefit members’ CVs and help them develop consultation, communication, evaluation and advocacy skills. It also offers a superb opportunity to meet new friends!
Young Scot points, exclusive access to Hot 100 competitions and prizes, and early email alerts to the latest news, activities and events in the local area will also be available to members, who will be recognised as a panel of experts who understand the needs and views of young people.
The Hot 100 be consulted by the South Ayrshire Youth Forum, Young Scot and South Ayrshire Council on a whole range of topics through e-mail.
Councillor John Hampton, Young People’s Champion for South Ayrshire Council, said the creation of the Hot 100 is an exciting development: “Young people play an important and key role in our communities. They have a voice and they deserve to be heard,” he said.
Chair of the South Ayrshire Youth Forum Maria McGough added: “We know there are lots of young people in South Ayrshire who have definite views on the services, facilities, events and activities they’d like to see coming in the future.
“In addition to the SAYF, the Hot 100 adds a different way of making sure those young people are heard and I look forward to welcoming new members.”
To join either the SAYF or the Hot 100, you must be aged between 12 and 25 and live in South Ayrshire. Young people from different backgrounds with diverse experiences of life and opinions are particularly encouraged to come forward to join.
