Sunshine turns to snow in Carrick

SNOWY SCENES: Apart from a dusting of settled snow in mid-January, Carrick has so far escaped the worst of the winter weather.

SNOW is on the go in Carrick once again as most of the UK is put on weather alert.

Carrick avoided the worst of the cold weather snap in late January, and even experienced some sunshine earlier this week as parts of England were engulfed by up to 13cm of snow. But it has not escaped this latest flurry.

The whole of Scotland, as well as Wales and most of England, has been placed under yellow alert for snow as Met Office forecasters predict up to 10cm on higher ground.

The latest bout of snow has been caused by a warm front travelling east from Northern Ireland – where only rain is expected – and meeting a colder airmass across Scotland and northern England.

While conditions are expected to become milder into the afternoon forecasters are warning of the risk of disruption to travel as snow turns to rain, causing enhanced risk of ice.

The current weather alert will expire at 11.55pm tonight, and as yet no further warnings have been isuued for tomorrow or the rest of the week.
