Trust grant means scout hall upgrade

Girvan Scout Group is pleased to announce another investment in the Scout Hall at 9 Glendoune Street. Thanks to a grant of nearly £1000 from the South Ayrshire Waste Environment Trust, which is funded from the landfill tax, the group has replaced its old folding dining units with new tables and chairs.

The units came on long-term loan at a time when the Scout Group was short of tables and seating. However, these old units were designed for primary school children and, as regular visitors will know, they were not really suitable for adult use.

The SAWET funding has contributed to a furniture upgrade in the interests of improved safety and comfort for all hall users. There’s an ideal opportunity to try them out at the group’s regular fund-raising Prize Bingo on Friday 1 March, at 7.30pm.

There’s no doubt that the recently refurbished hall is an asset to the Scout Group and the town. Available for other organisations and individuals to hire, the hall has accommodated children’s parties, meetings, training courses and leisure classes. Ask any leader about booking enquiries, giving as much notice as possible.

There are vacancies for boys and girls in Beavers (6-8 years), Cubs (8-10½ years) and Scouts (10½-14 years) and adult volunteers are always needed. Contact the group at girvanscouts@gmail.com or follow them on Facebook, where they are called 3rd Ayrshire 1st Girvan Scout Group, or just go to the hall when it’s open.
