Views on Biosphere sought

CARRICK residents are being offered the chance to feedback on the Biosphere in the first survey since official status was granted.

The first official Biosphere Status in Scotland was awarded to Galloway and South Ayrshire on July 12, and the area also boasts only the third in the UK.

The status is awarded to world-class environments demonstrating a balanced relationship between people and nature – working in harmony to protect the natural and cultural diversity of a region while promoting sustainable economic development.

Now the biosphere group want to hear local residents’ thoughts on the area to help identify its “sense of place”.

A spokesperson said: “Galloway and Southern Ayrshire is a notable Scottish Landscape, but it’s also quite different to other regions of Scotland and has its own sense of place that is experienced by local people and visitors alike.

“As part of the Biosphere, we want to explore the regions Sense of Place by involving the people who live, work and visit in helping to ensure its unique characteristics are not only protected, but celebrated and used to underpin the future of the Biosphere itself.”
