Washout weather continues
ANKLE-DEEP: The Wigtown Show was deluged last week.
The weather in July was no more seasonal than in June, with higher rainfall and lower than average temperatures continuing well into the summer.
The month was the coldest for 10 years, according to George Watt of Ballantrae, who recorded a mean temperature of only 13.9 degrees – a degree below average for the time of year. The highest temperature recorded was 22.9 degrees on July 5.
The total rainfall recorded by Mr Watt was 119.9mm – a little above the 16-year average of 102.8mm.
Met Office data puts the mean temperature for the month at 0.8 degrees lower than the long-term average, with the maximum temperature more than a whole degree less than average.
Carrick continued to see some severe weather into early August, and Girvan police officers attended more than 15 different flooding calls over the weekend.
Some local roads were left more than a foot under water after heavy rainfall, and the A714 between Pinwherry and Pinmore was impassable at times.
“Fortunately, no-one was injured during the weekend’s bad weather,” said PC Craig O’Neill, Girvan police station assistant.
“Police urge motorists to give themselves extra time and prepare for alternate routes in this weather and to check ahead to avoid any further delays.”
A yellow weather warning for Strathclyde was in place as recently as Monday, but with highs of 17 degrees predicted today and up to 19 tomorrow, the sun may be making a comeback.
