Youngsters create garden for community

A group of enthusiastic young pupils from Carrick Academy is designing and creating a community garden at The Carrick Centre in Maybole.

The group has taken on the responsibly of maintaining and caring for a neglected area of land within the grounds of the Centre and intend to turn it into a bright and welcoming area for all who visit to enjoy.

Before Christmas, the group cleared the space; getting rid of the weeds, rubbish and rubble that had accumulated over time. After a few cold sessions and a bit of hard graft, the team successfully completed the first phase of the project - operation clean up!

The pupils are now looking for any donations from the community of plants, seeds and old slabs to help make their garden as good as they envision it.

Local building contractor John Jamieson has already kindly offered his services to the group and will be donating almost 60 tonnes of top soil as well as the use of a digger to help prepare the space.

All donations and enquires can be made at either The Carrick Centre or Carrick Academy and would be greatly appreciated!

Group members are Ryan Maxwell, Holly Maxwell, Drew Maxwell, Amy Prower, Robin Stack, Jamie Sargent, Sandy Fisher, Emily Purdie, Kimberley Easton and Eve Huber.
