The plans to build a new swimming pool in Girvan have received a major funding boost thanks to Carrick Futures this week.
Carrick Futures have agreed to provide South Carrick Community Leisure, the group pushing for a new pool, a sum of £250,000 over a three year period to help fund a new swimming pool.
The award gives SCCL a major boost towards helping to raise the remaining £1m of funding costs for the new pool which is set to open in 2016.
The new facility will include a 25-metre pool, a two storey soft play area, gym, and flexible multi–purpose studio which can be used for arts and culture and community events and a coffee area.
Councillor Bill McIntosh, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: “The new leisure and community facility has always been a partnership project and I’m delighted our partners are now starting to see the fruits of their many labours to raise the outstanding capital costs required to add to the Council’s contribution of £4 million.
“This announcement highlights just how much progress has been made over the last few months and takes us another step closer to turning our plans into something real and tangible that can be enjoyed by our communities.
“Our thanks to Carrick Futures for recognising what this wonderful facility will bring to local people and having the confidence to make such a meaningful funding award.”
Girvan residents have been fighting for a new pool since the old one was shut down by the council in 2009.
