Maybole Gala Week starts this coming Sunday, June 2, with an ecumenical service at Crossraguel Abbey at 3pm.

The service is organised by Maybole Council of Churches and features hymns chosen by representatives of all churches in the town.

Making their first public appearance will be this year’s Gala King and Queen of Carrick – Cairn pupils Cameron McCulloch and Ruth Dowie who will be officially crowned on Gala Day Saturday June 8.

The king and queen will also be present at the annual Pet Show which will be held on Tuesday June 4 at 6.30pm at Ladywell Stadium.

The Gala Quiz will be held in the Maybole Arms on Thursday June 6 at 7.30pm and teams are welcome to just turn up on the night.

On Gala Day itself, the parade led by Maybole Pipe Band, the king and queen and their attendants will leave Carrick Academy at 1pm and proceed via the High Street to the Glebe Park. Attendants this year are Gardenrose pupils Sophie Lawrie and Michael McCormick; and St Cuthbert’s pupils Zoe Campbell and Josh Malone

At the park, the crowning is by Adam Ingram MSP and Sandra Osborne MP.
