Estella McEwan is the 2013 winner of the Matt Dunnachie Award and she received her trophy from Alex Meek, convener of Carrick Sports Club at a meeting of the Tuesday Club recently.

Mr Meek told members: “The family of the late Matt Dunnachie donated a silver trophy to Carrick Sports Club in 2007.

“This trophy is awarded on an annual basis to an individual or organisation who has contributed to life the town of Maybole over the years.

“A small committee of the Club was formed to make this difficult decision every year. It is a difficult task because there are so many people who work away in the background in many organisations in our town with little or no recognition.”

“This year the award goes to Estella McEwan. She has spent many years involved in various organisations in the town. And there are many groups within Maybole who have cause to be grateful to her.

“She was instrumental in helping to make the Charity Shop a success and a source of much needed income for these groups through the years.

“Estella has also been involved with the Royal British Legion Scotland and the Tuesday Club to name but a few organisations over the years.

“She gave unstintingly of her time and organising ability to the benefit of many and this award is to say a thank you from the people of Maybole.”
