Meeting to tackle Girvan burglaries

THREE ladies from Girvan are calling on residents of the town to get together to stop a recent spate of burglaries which are causing widespread alarm, especially among the elderly.

The three Girvan residents; Gail Sloan, Lena Elliott and Charlene Irvine are calling on people in the town to come to a special meeting which has been called for Wednesday, December 19 in Girvan Community Centre at 7pm.

Members of Girvan’s community policing team will attend along with councillors Alec Clark, Alec Oattes and John McDowall.

It is understood that one of the reasons the meeting has been called is that many householders, including elderly residents, are living in fear of burglars and are afraid to leave their homes unattended especially over the Christmas period.

Spokeswoman for the group Gail Sloan said that they called the meeting to allow the police to reassure residents and to give residents a chance to put their concerns to officers.
