More than ‘just’ the janitor

ONE of the most popular members of staff at Girvan Academy has retired after 11 years at the school.

School janitor David Hunter MBE, who also leads the school’s Burns Bairns group, was given a great send off by staff and pupils at the school last week.

Head teacher Allan Rattray said: “I want to wish David all the very best for the future.

“For David it’s very much an open door here at the Academy. We do hope he will return and continue to work with our young people and lead the Burns Bairns.”

“I have lots of great memories with the school. I have enjoyed taking the Burns Bairns out to entertain the old folk and hopefully I will be able to keep it all going. I want to thank Allan and the staff for letting me participate - I will miss this place big time.”
