Jeane Freeman, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, has announced that she is an accredited Living Wage employer and that she will be leading an initiative to persuade other employers in the constituency to also adopt the Living Wage.

Ms Freeman said; “I am delighted of course that my own team will be paid at least the Living Wage, but I am also determined to promote the Living Wage in Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley and, working with my colleagues, across Ayrshire more generally.

“I will be setting up meetings with key employers in the constituency to promote the Living Wage and encourage them to also become accredited.

“People who work hard should not be living in poverty because the minimum legal wage is not enough to live on. The Living Wage is based on the actual cost of living, paying it is not only fair to those in work but is good commercial sense for employers too.”
