Musical treat for Girvan

This season Girvan Musical Society proudly present a brand new musical, The Drowsy Chaperone.

It first opened on Broadway as recently as 2006 and ran in London’s West End in 2007 starring, amongst others, Elaine Paige.

The story centres around a woman who is a musical fanatic. As we join the story she is in her apartment listening to an old gramophone recording of her favourite show – the fictional 1928 musical The Drowsy Chaperone.

As she is transported into the story so are we, as it comes to life transforming her old apartment itself into a glamorous Broadway stage!

The show contains many hilarious characters, from the Latin lover Aldolpho to gangsters disguised as pastry chefs for the wedding.

What ensues is a hilarious, fast-paced and energetic show punctuated with catchy songs and sparkling comedy. The show has only recently been released for amateur performance and has only been performed in Scotland one, so Girvan Musical Society is proud to bring this gem of a show to the Academy Theatre.

The cast contains many familiar faces, with Margaret Nicol, Lorna McColm, John Gourlay, Paula Murphy and Richard Denton all taking lead roles amongst many others.

The Society also welcome back Olive Lindsay to the Society to play the title role of the Chaperone. James Nicol will also join the company this season to play Aldolpho.

Director Andrew Nicol said: “We are all looking forward to a busy two months of rehearsal. I am so pleased to be working with such a strong cast this season and this very exciting show is definitely not one to be missed.”

The show will run at Girvan Academy Theatre from March 20-24. Ticket information will be available soon.
