New homes on the rise

The number of new homes registered in Scotland last year was the highest for six years, new figures from NHBC reveal.

In total 10,052 new homes were registered in 2013, 21 percent more than 2012 (8327) and the highest since the pre-recession peak in 2007.

Overall, annual figures for new home registrations in the whole of the UK increased by 28 percent in 2013, compared to the previous year.

As the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK, NHBC’s registration statistics provide significant insight on the country’s new homes market.

NHBC director for Scotland MalcoIm MacLeod said: “I am delighted for the Scottish house-building industry and everyone who has worked so hard to make 2013 such a good year. Although we are just starting a New Year we are already seeing indications that 2014 will be another promising year.

“The figures are proof that more people are being given the opportunity to get on the housing ladder and buy their own, new home.”
