The Rotary Club of Girvan has a well-known face as its President for the next year as retired dentist Eric MacKinnon takes over the reigns.

Eric worked at the Dalrymple Street surgery for over three decades after qualifying from Glasgow University in 1975. He is married to Rhona and his three kids Karen, Laurie and Kerr all went to Girvan Academy.

Eric had the honour of receiving the post in the presence of Mr John Waddell the Rotary’s District Governor. John is in charge of District 1230 which covers 51 Rotary clubs, including the City of Glasgow, Argyllshire, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and Wigtownshire. With such a huge area to cover Rotarians appreciated the visit from John.

On the same evening Mr Jim Flowerdew of Turnberry, another well-known face was elected Vice President. The Club thanked Mr John Barr, the outgoing President for his year of hard work.

The Rotary Club has committed itself again to running the ‘Girvan Christmas Songs of Praise ‘ , the ‘Santa’s Sleigh’ collection round Girvan and Dailly, and a spring ‘Clean Up’ of Girvan’s beach .

If you would like to join our very social band, talk to any member or come along to The Royal Hotel in Girvan on a Tuesday around 6pm and meet the group.
