Supermarket chain Lidl have no plans to move into Girvan town centre.
A spokesperson for the German owned firm confirmed the news when contacted by The Carrick Gazette this week.
Rumours had refused to go away amongst certain sections of the town that the discount supermarket store had plans to move into the old Woolworths building in the town’s Dalrymple Street.
However a response from a Lidl spokesperson this week simply stated: “I can confirm that there are no plans for Lidl to purchase the old Woolworthssite in Girvan.”
Lidl’s nearest stores to Girvan are currently situated in Ayr and Stranraer and if it was true they did have plans to come into Girvan town centre, then it would have provided greater competition for the ASDA store in Vicarton Street as well as other stores such as the Co-Operative, Costcutter and Premier Stores.
Poundsworth were the last occupants of the building.
