Police seek witnesses after road smash

Police Scotland is appealing for witnesses following a serious road crash in Turnberry, South Ayrshire on Saturday 10 January.

At around 4.50pm, a grey MG ZR car was travelling south along Girvan Road when it was involved in a collision with a DAF gritting vehicle.

The 17 year-old male driver was taken to Ayr Hospital suffering from serious head and neck injuries before being transferred to the Southern General where staff describe his condition as critical.

A 17 year-old woman, who was a front seat passenger in the car, was also taken to Ayr Hospital for treatment however staff say her injuries are not life threatening.

The driver of the gritter was not injured.
