Glasgow Prestwick Airport has been taken into public ownership, it was announced this week by the Scottish government.

The move was announced in a statement by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, October 8.

The airport was put up for sale last March by New Zealand-based owners Infratil, and has been running annual losses of around £1.8m.

Recent figures showed that 118,634 passengers passed through Prestwick in May - a 14% increase on the same month last year. It was the eighth consecutive month of year-on-year growth.
