To encourage more pregnant women and new mums to consider breastfeeding, NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s breastfeeding campaign has taken to the road.
Around 70 vans across Ayrshire and Arran have been branded with the national message to encourage women to make the choice to breastfeed.
The campaign which focuses on the ‘feed good factor’ has the theme of choice, with three key messages: I made the best choice to breastfeed, Breastfeeding was a great decision, and I feel so good about breastfeeding.
Ruth Campbell, Consultant Dietitian in Public Health Nutrition explained: “Breastfeeding rates in Ayrshire, while improving, still remain low. We want to get the message out to as many places as possible that women should consider breastfeeding.
“By branding the vans, we hope that women, and men, will see the messages when they are out and about.
“You can also see the posters and adverts on Healthlive, our information screens located throughout our hospital and community sites, and our public website www.nhsayrshireandarran.com.” Dr Carol Davidson, Executive Director of Public Health said: “We want to encourage a more positive and open attitude that supports mums’ choice to breastfeed and encourages them to take that positive step and provide their baby with all the nutrients they need for the first six months of their life, through breastfeeding”.
