Sacred Hearties are at it again!

After the huge success last year of the Sacred Heart Academy reunion, the committee have been working hard to line up another great night of music and fun in the Catholic Hall, Girvan on Saturday, June 25.

And already former pupils have flights booked from Australia, Europe and North America to be there as word of the success of last year’s reunion has spread.

Catriona Cochrane, one of the organisers of the reunion, told the Gazette that the previous two have been huge successes - thanks in part to the school being so small.

She said: “Our school only had around 120 people there so we all knew everyone, which is why I think the reunions have been a huge success.

“It always tended to be a close knit school.

“Last year’s went really well, there were a number of people who wanted to go but were unable to.

“We’ve got former pupils coming from across the world back to Girvan, who will be all staying in the town.

“They’ll be bringing their families with them, so it’s also a little boost for the town.”

The reunion gives the chance for the former pupils to rekindle friendships that were lost as they moved away and, in some cases, old relationship have been reignited.

Catriona continued: “It’s great to catch up with people you went to school with and it has helped regain friendships that were lost as we moved away. Obviously it is much easier in this age with email and facebook to stay in touch and we do so now.

“There has been a case where two people have got back together after meeting up at the reunion.

“This will be our third reunion and each time different people have turned up.”

Organising committee member Nick Dillon explained that the two previous reunions have seen old bands get back together.

He said: “Last year we reunited the old school band, with Gerry Shaw, Martin Ferrie, Irene Fyfe and John McGinnis appearing together for the first time in years.

“This year, we’re pulling in even more talent, with several other former pupils set to entertain.

“Tickets, costing £10, are available online by registering on the Sacred Heart Academy Girvan page on facebook or by contacting catrionac65@hotmail.com.

“You can also buy them In ‘Yes’ boutique or the Sweetie Shop.

“We’d urge everyone who wants to come to get their tickets soon because demand is high and capacity is limited – we’re expecting it to sell out before the night.”

Nostalgia is the name of the game for the reunion, as Catriona added: “It’s like we’re all 16 years old again and we’re there to enjoy ourselves.

“We all still have very fond memories of the town, so it’s always good to come back.”
