Scott reels off a string of piping competition wins

IT has been a hectic few weeks for Carrick piper Scott Barrie.

The fun began at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow where he won the Clan Macgregor Society Cup for Piobaireachd and the Royal Scottish Pipers’ Society Quaich for the MSR (March, Strathspey and Reel).

Then it was on to Prestwick Academy for the Robert Burns World Federation’s schools competition where Scott represented Carrick Academy and won the McGinn Trophy for piping for year S5-6.

Next, at the Ayrshire Music Festival, again representing Carrick Academy, Scott was first in the March and Strathspey and Reel.

He was also second in the Jig and won the Coodham Silver Challenge Cup for Best Overall Piper.

Finally, Scott took part in the Dumfries and Galloway Music Festival, again representing his school, and won the William Marshall Memorial Trophy for MSR. and was second in the Hornpipe and Jig.

Scott is in class five year one at Carrick Academy in Maybole and is also a member of Strathclyde Police Pipe Band.

He is taught by the highly-respected piping tutor, Brian Mulhearn of Troon.
