Season on target for archers

AS the outdoor season comes to an end, Ayr Archery Club can look back on a successful shooting season.

The club has hosted a UK record status tournament at SAC Auchincruive, The West of Scotland Championship and its own George Beattie Memorial Shoot.

In tournaments, it had archers competing all over the UK, winning tournaments in Kilwinning, Penicuik, Lillishall and finishing runners-up at many other venues.

Club spokesman Andrew Downie said: “We have the West of Scotland ladies and gents Compound champions, the Gents Outdoor Senior champion and the Scottish Disabled Compound champion.

“We also have the Scottish under 18 Boys champion, who also holds a number of UK and Scottish Distance records. The Scottish under 16 Boys Compound champion also hails from the club and one member has been invited for classification for the UK Paralympic Squad at the end of October.

“As the winter season is about to begin, we will continue shooting at Carrick Academy, Maybole, on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

“Beginners are welcome as we will run two courses during the winter, starting with a taster day on Sunday October 2.”
