FOR only the second time since the mid 1960s the Great Britain V steam train tour came to southwest Scotland last week.
Hauled by two Black 5 locomotives the train ran from Glasgow and passed through South Ayrshire between 11am and 2pm. After a short stop at Ayr the train passed Maybole and then stopped for water at Girvan. There was also a brief stop at Barrhill before the train arrived in Stranraer at 3.30pm. On the return journey there were stops at Barrhill, Girvan and Maybole.
See this week’s Carrick Gazette for more pictures from the day.
