AYRSHIRE Housing has just started work on 13 houses for rent in Maybole. The housing association’s honorary president Pearl Boyd cut the first sod. She was joined by the Provost of South Ayrshire, Councillor Helen Moonie.
Ayrshire Housing’s director Jim Whiston said: “We’re really pleased to have started this project at last after five years of trying. Unfortunately, the association can’t commit to building many more schemes of this size. Deep cuts in grants from the Scottish Government mean that we’re subsidising each house by about £40,000 on top of what we can borrow. This is not sustainable if we’re to maintain reasonable rents and good quality services for our tenants.”
The houses will be complete by Christmas. There will be nine two-bedroom single storey houses and four three-bedroom storey and a half houses. All are designed for a wide range of household needs. They will enjoy stunning views towards the Southern Uplands and are being built by Ashleigh, Scotland.
