THE Art and Design Department at Carrick Academy was delighted at the recent success of one of its second-year pupils in a nationwide art competition.

Rhyana McKie, aged 13, was one of only 50 shortlisted artists from more than 3000 entries at this year’s Fringe Festival Poster Design Competition.

If you do the maths, she outperformed 98.5 per cent of the pupils that entered from more than 120 schools.

Teacher Fraser Muirhead said, “This is a massive achievement in being selected from so many and Rhyana’s work will be on public display at the Museum of Childhood on The Royal Mile from May 28 until August 31 during the Fringe Festival in the summer.

“Why not plan a visit and see Rhyana’s work along with all the other shortlisted entries in what will be a fantastic exhibition.”

All pupils who took part in the competition will receive certificates and Carrick Academy was also presented with a certificate of thanks for the school’s entries to the competition.

All-in-all, a very successful event with the pupils’ enthusiasm and creativity evident from the hard work put in.
