Sarah Hutton, representative of the William Grant Foundation Youth Opportunities Fund officially opened the new Youth Training Kitchen at The Carrick Centre in Maybole on a recent visit to Scotland.

The centre received a grant from the William Grant Foundation to cover the cost of adapting a kitchen to provide individual work stations and fund a part-time tutor to provide practical cookery training to small groups of young people with additional support needs. The Fund is managed on behalf of William Grant by Foundation Scotland.

Iain Smith, Chef Tutor, said: “As well as showing trainees how to cook we also teach them about healthy eating. This project is also part of a plan to develop an express food take away service for local workers and school students at lunch time. It will provide a meaningful work experience for young people with special needs and contribute toward the financial sustainability of the project. We expect around 35 young people to benefit from the project each year.”

Foundation Scotland provides cost effective and tax efficient services from light touch giving to personalised grant and loan programmes.
