Sophie Sandor and Maria McGough, members of the South Ayrshire Youth Forum, have joined South Ayrshire’s Licensing Forum.
Rachael Rennie, chairwoman of South Ayrshire Licensing Forum said: “It is wonderful that we have two such enthusiastic young people joining us. Sophie and Maria will bring a new dimension to the Forum and I am positive that their contributions will be welcomed by other members.”
Speaking about their appointment to the Forum Sophie Sandor said: “Being a member of the South Ayrshire Youth Forum and having a responsibility to represent young people has given me an interest in a wider range of problems facing young people. Alcohol abuse being one of the most serious, I was very keen to be part of the South Ayrshire Licensing forum in order to speak on behalf of young people
Maria McGough said: “Being Chairperson of South Ayrshire Youth Forum has shown me that my opinion is valued, and my voice can be heard. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to further this as a member of the Licensing Forum. Alcohol is a relevant issue for young people, particularly those of my age, and so I hope that I have something to add to the Forum, as well as representing the views on these issues of the young people of South Ayrshire.”
The local licensing Forums across Scotland were set up in August 2007 under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 and were established to better connect local Licensing Boards with the communities affected by their decisions.
The South Ayrshire Licensing Forum represents the views of people concerned with the operation of the alcohol/liquor licensing system in the South Ayrshire area.
The Forum, which meets four times each year, is made up of representatives from current personal and premises license holders, health, education or social work, Strathclyde Police, South Ayrshire Licensing Board, young people and members of the local community.
The role of the Forum is to keep under review the operation of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 in the Forum’s area and the exercise by the Licensing Board of its functions and to give advice and make recommendations to the Board on policy.
