MORE than 500 runners took part in one of the nine races or fun runs throughout the day at Stranraer on Saturday.

The day saw competitors from as young as one year old to 70-plus take part.
The winner of the half-marathon was Paul Arcari, of Kilbarchan AAC, who finished centimetres in front of Robert Gilroy.
Both athletes completed the 13 miles 192.5 yards in an excellent time of 1 hr 11 minutes and 17 seconds.
The winning female, who completed the race in 1 hr 25 minutes, 59 seconds, was Lisa Finlay from Dumfries Running Club.
The first Wigtownshire lady home was Diane Willis of the Galloway Harriers in a time of 1hr 57 minutes 28 seconds and the first Wigtownshire local man was Ross Bark of Ronhill Cambuslang in 1 hr 22 minutes, 52 seconds.
The senior fun run, which was completed over the accurately measured four-mile course, saw Anna Hatton from Cleveland Tri Club complete the course first in 29 minutes and 15 seconds.
The first male runner was Harry Keery in 35 minutes 49 seconds.
The 14, 15 and 16 years race also completed the four-mile course.
First male home in a time of 29 minutes and 43 seconds, unattached was Craig Drysdale, while Stephanie Lawrie of Nithsdale AC won the female in 30 minutes 52 seconds.
In the 12 and 13 years race, Newton Stewart's Robert Service had a great race and completed the 2,100 metres in 7 minutes, 25 seconds.
First girl home in 8 minutes 10 seconds was Laura Penrice.
From a total of 17 athletes in the 10 and 11 years Fun Run, Liam Turner from Victoria Park, Glasgow won in a time of 4 minutes 55 seconds, while Euan Penrice of Stewartry AC was a very close 2nd in 5 minutes 08 second and 3rd was Andrew Service in 5 minutes and 32 seconds.
The winner of the girls was Fern Wales in 5 minutes 14 seconds, 2nd was Mayghan Wilson in 6 minutes 37 seconds and 3rd was Holly Irons in 7 minutes 46 seconds.
The final three fun runs of the day within the vicinity of the track were the four and under, five and six years and seven, eight and nine years. This was a fantastic sight with over 80 children taking part in the fun runs.
The event would not have been a success without the help and support of Dumfries and Galloway Council staff, the many volunteers, Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, Event's First aid and rescue, Army Cadets, Combined Services for providing the catering, Stranraer Academy for allowing the use of their facilities and raynet for providing radio contact around the routes.
Thanks must also go to Stranraer and District pipe band whose playing added to the atmosphere and lifted the spirits of both competitors and spectators.
Local and national sponsors played their part in the successful day: they included E4D&G, Wigtownshire Alcohol and Drug Forum, NHS Dumfries and Galloway, Dumfries and Galloway College, Stagecoach, StenaLine, Run and Become, Galloway Timbers, South-west-events.co.uk, William Simpson & Sons, Profiles Plus, Morrisons, Andrea's.
The Leisure and Sport Section of Dumfries and Galloway Council, who organised the event, are extremely grateful for all assistance and support, which resulted in an excellent day and one which makes a huge difference to the profile of the Stranraer area.
One of the main sponsors of the event was the E4D&G consortium, the organisation behind Dumfries and Galloway's schools PPP Project.
The project will deliver over £100 million of investment in 9 new schools including the refurbishment and extension at Stranraer Academy.
