BRIAN McCLUCKIE has been named as the new boss of Girvan FC.
Former assistant McCluckie takes over the Hamilton Park hot seat after Billy Thomson informed the Girvan committee he was to quit last Monday night with immediate effect.
Last week, the Gazette revealed that it was family reasons behind Thomson's de
parture, but it is now understood that he could be ready to take over at Kilwinning Rangers.
Thomson's name is believed to be in the frame alongside Dalry manager John Garroch to replace Gary Faulds at Abbey Park.
However, Girvan moved quickly to secure McCluckie's services at the club and put an end to any rumours that he may join up with Thomson should he get the Buffs' job.
Girvan are delighted that McCluckie has taken on the role and the move maintains consistency at the club and avoids any upheaval through the short close-season.
Ernie Dawe will become Brian's assistant and the Gazette also understands that an ex-Auchinleck Talbot player may also be brought in as part of the new set-up.
The players were made aware of the latest developments last weekend at a meeting at Hamilton Park.
Chairman Tam McCreadie told the Gazette on Monday: "We're very happy that Brian has taken the job.
"Brian's been here for a while now and knows the club and what we are about. We're looking forward to the new season."
Of that group of players there was the return of Jim Leitch who looks set to play a part for the Seasiders next season.
Leitch had been placed on the transfer list toward the end of last year after rumours of a dispute with former gaffer Thomson, but McCluckie made the call to get the former Talbot man back down to Hamilton Park.
And McCluckie has already been busy looking for players to add to the squad as well as keeping the current playing staff at Girvan.
In other news from the Girvan club, pre-season friendlies against Wigtown & Bladnoch, Stranraer have been arranged and the club are in talks with Ayr United to face one of their youth sides. And at last week's AGM it was announced that Kerr McKinnon has joined the committee as Girvan's new Commercial Manager.
