Sam wins boys golf championship
THE Girvan Boys Golf Championship, organised by the Rotary Club of Girvan, was played on Friday, June 27th, the 40th year of this event.
It was also the first event to count for the Junior Order of Merit. It should be noted that all scores are gross and no account is taken of handicap.
The weather was fair and breezy in the early part of the day but rain came in later making conditions difficult. The golf course was in superb condition as confirmed by the excellent scores recorded by the contestants.
The Championship was won with a very good score for this event of 65 gross, by Sam Findlater (Troon Welbeck G C) to secure The Grants Trophy. The Nick Price Team Trophy, donated by Nick Price when he won The Open at Turnberry in 1994, was won by Belleisle Juniors with a score of 208. (C Stewart 71; S Clark 71; A Foley 66).
