SATURDAY was a big day for the Ayr United Academy with two players making their appearance for the first team in their 3-1 win at Hampden against Queens' Park.

After a number of brief substitute appearances, Alastair Woodburn turned in an impressive display at the National Stadium while Lloyd Kinnard made an appearance as a sub, replacing Woodburn with 15 minutes to go.
Under-19s manager John McCaig was delighted.
He said: "Both these boys deserve their chance as they have worked very hard in the under-19s squad this season and both without question have the qualities to go to a higher level.
"It's days like this that make all the hard work and effort put in by a lot of people at the Academy very much worthwhile."
Meanwhile, congratulations go to former academy youth player Kyle McAusland who recently made his international debut at under-15 level in the double-header against Belgium.
The Cumnock lad spent three years with Ayr United, scoring more than 100 goals, before joining Rangers this season.
Meanwhile, Marc Dyer was on form for the AUFA under-14s over the past week, scoring all his side's goals in the matches against Morton and Clyde.
First he scored the only goal of the game against Morton last Thursday night. The goal came in the second period, knocking home the rebound after a Cammy Marlow shot crashed off the bar.
Whether it was the boost the boys got from playing at Somerset rubbing off or not, but on Sunday the team turned in their best performance of the season against Clyde at Broadwood.
In a superb team showing, Marc Dyer was again the hero with all four of his side's goals.
But it was the team's overall performance that impressed manager Allan Paul.
He said: "Attitude was the key ingredient displayed by all the players. The ability to take the instuctions on to the park and follow them meant they got what they deserved.
"Dyer and strike partner Garry Giffin put in an endless shift, but to be fair every single player rose to the challenge and I'll be looking for them to approach their remaining games this season in a similar fashion."
The under-15s also got a run out at Somerset Park on Sunday against Queens' Park. United started strongly and took an early lead from the penalty spot.
After a netbound shot was handled on the line, Jo Maxwell stepped forward and netted from the spot.
United dominated the first period, but, despite striker Roddy Paterson's awareness and movement creating a host of chances, unfortunately the striker didn't have his shooting boots on.
The visitors scored a freak goal in the second period, with an attempted cross that evaded keeper Chris Murchie and went in off the post, but despite United having the better opportunities in the rest of the game, there was no further scoring.
The under-16s match against Queens' Park at Lesser Hampden was postponed because of the Scottish Cup semi-final being played at the National Stadium and was re-scheduled.
A new season of coaching classes kicks off this week, run by the Ayr United Football Development Team.
Courses are being run for boys and girls of all ages, with each one-hour session costing as little as £2.20.
These are being held at the Citadel, Coylton, Muirhead, Tarbolton, Mossblown and Dundonald Activity Centres, with the one and a half hour Saturday morning session at Pro-Soccer, Whitletts, costing £3.50.
All courses will be taken by fully qualified community coaches and will be great fun for the kids, as well as teaching them some of the skills required for the game.
For details, visit the Academy website at www.aufa.org.uk, phone Shaun Ferrie on 01292 263435 or contact your local activity centre.
