An action packed week for the Ayr Burners kicked off on Thursday night with Round 5 of the fiercely contested Summer Series. Marine Drive in Irvine was the venue for a group ride with a difference - Three groups containing three riders each would be set off at intervals based on ability, with the aim being to catch the group ahead and ultimately cross the finish line first. A smooth working bunch would pay dividends during the pursuit, whilst an inconsistent alliance of riders would struggle to make any gains over the duration. Groups one and two eventually merged to form a strong gang, whilst group three, which contained series leader Scott Knox, launched a fruitless all out effort in a bid to catch the escapees. With a well timed last gasp sprint Joanne Baxter took the win and the 50 points on offer to move her up to 5th place in the overall standings. Scott Knox still leads the Summer Series by 46 points, but with three rounds still remaining the competition remains wide open.

On Sunday 19 eager ‘Sparks’ gathered in sunny Belleisle for the latest edition of the popular Balance Bike Games mornings. An enthusiastic bunch aged from 2 to 6 years old enjoyed the fun and games with cakes and a trip to the play park capping off a fantastic days entertainment.

With the Tour de France in full swing ‘The Burners’ have devised three short Monday evening rides in tribute to the famous bike race. A 25 kilometer circuit starting and finishing in Monkton will take in the quiet back lanes of East Ayrshire, with a social pace guaranteed. Monday is the traditional ‘rest day’ during the Tour de France, and so what better way to catch up with all the happenings at ‘Le Tour’ than a friendly summers evening bike ride.
