The highlight of the Scottish Cyclocross calendar came in the form of the Irvine beach Park race which was held amongst the dunes last Sunday. A great atmosphere was guaranteed with this round of the series being designated as the national championships.

A large entry of nearly 500, which was a record for a Scottish championship, enjoyed a very challenging course which due to the damp conditions became highly technical as the day wore on.

The Ayr Burners proudly fielded ten entrants spread across almost at the different categories of youth, junior, ladies, and both the veteran male and open male races. Best result of the day was Christopher Scott with an 8th place in the highly competitive junior category.

This Saturday ‘The Burners’ are keeping their legs moving through the winter with a gentle paced 2 hour road ride. The distance will be around 35 miles with an average speed of 15 miles per hour.

Starting and finishing at Monkton Cross, the group will take advantage of the quiet traffic free back roads and lanes around the area, with a cafe stop in Monkton to finish. Full details can be found at ayrburners.org
