Ayr Burners Cycling youngster Harry McGarvie rode to a great 6th place in the Scottish Youth TT Championship last Sunday.

The 13-year-old from Symington was up against the cream of young Scottish riders over a testing and windy course over the old A77 starting and finishing in Newton Mearns.

Other members of The Burners enjoyed a more leisurely ride on Saturday with the last of the highly popular “chiller” social rides of the summer lead by Chris Johnson and Rod Henderson.

15 riders, including three women and four new riders braved strong, blustery winds starting out from Alloway and taking in the Coast road before looping back to Maybole and Crosshill.

The road season might feel like it’s drawing towards an end. But The Burners diary is still chockablock, with the cyclocross season looming and the next “sparks academy” balance bike session taking place at Kyle Academy this Sunday from 10am-11am. Spaces are limited at this session for 2 to 5 year olds, so please check out ayrburners.org for details of how to register.

Members and prospective members are also invited to the third committee meeting and race night at the Savoy Park on Thursday 17 September at The Savoy Park in Ayr. Starting at 7pm, this is a chance for all to hear an update on our future plans.
