The Doonbank Playing fields played host on Sunday for the first Ayr Roads Cycling Club - Harry Fairbairn BMW - Sprockets.com CycloCross Race promotion. Over 100 competitors from far and wide made the journey to South Ayrshire, despite the wild conditions. The heavy outbursts ensured that a tough, muddy and grueling course would await the eagerly assembled racers. The first event of the day saw Brendan Rowe of Leslie Bikes take the over 50’s race where Bobby McGhee impressed with 9th position the home club. Jane Barr of Velocity 44 claimed the top spot in the ladies battle, where Joanne Baxter of Ayr Roads CC continued her fine run of CycloCross form to secure 3rd place.

In the mens 40 plus race Gary Macrae of Leslie Bikes managed to halt the 2014 dominance of Glasgow United by holding off Melville and Jackson in an enthralling battle. Ayr Roads CC continued to show the home colours to good effect with Paul Gibson and JP Baxter finishing in 9th and 10th respectively.

The last on the bill provided the spectators with ample excitement, as worsening conditions meant an already demanding course was made even more strenuous. NTFO rider James McCallum proved the worthy winner, with Brian McCardle of EKRC and Barry Wilson of Billy Bilsland Cycles less than 20 seconds behind in second and third places.
