With only a few weeks of the Road Cycling season left, many of the members of Ayr Roads Cycling Club - Harry Fairbairn BMW - Sprockets.com have now begun to focus on the off road Winter discipline of Cyclo-Cross.
A jam packed calendar of events through September, October and November approaches, with ten Scottish races available for competitors to enter, including the Bute CX event and the National Championships which are being held in Aberdeenshire for 2014.
The first Ayr Roads rider to open up the clubs 2014/15 Cyclo-Cross account was Lindsay McGarvie who was competing in Round one of the London X League which was being held in Stanmer Park in Brighton. Unusually warm conditions for CycloCross ensured the racing would be a tough affair, with a dry and dusty course meaning fast lap times and a relentless pace. Darren Barclay of Arctic RT SRAM took the win in the senior mens event, with Crispen Doyle of Hargroves Cycles winning the over 40’s category, where McGarvie placed a solid 20th for Ayr Roads CC in a high profile event.
