CARRICK took to the field looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
The visitors started off the stronger side, applying early pressure, but Mull fought their way into the Carrick 22 metre zone with some powerful work by their forwards and crossed the line to score a dubious try which they converted. Carrick fought hard to get back in the game but the Mull defence held firm until just before half-time when Ewan Alexander showed good strength and determination to crash over under the posts, with Euan McGregor converting to take the score to 7-7 at half- time.
Carrick flew out the blocks in the second-half scoring on their first attacking move, with Fraser Thompson chipping the ball through the Mull defence and sliding into score the try.
Carrick’s team performance improved as the game continued and another well-worked move saw McGregor dribbling the ball over the line to secure their third try.
The home side finished off with another score in the corner, with the backs shipping the ball wide to Nik Rossi, who, despite being tackled short of the line, picked himself up and dived over to score the bonus point and secure the victory.
Carrick’s next fixture is away to Jordanhill Pheonix on Saturday, September 17.
