Carrick bowling season opens

Girvan Bowling Club opened for the season on Saturday afternoon and the event was bathed in sunshine.

After the initial address a minute’s silence was held in memory of members who had passed away during the winter: Bill Smallwood, Jim Faulds, Leonard Girvan, Guy Muir, May Rennie, Matt Greer, and Mollie Kiltie.

The flag was then raised and the first jack was thrown by President’s wife Louise Milne.

This was followed by a floral presentation and the game format for the day was a tournament of fourteen ends.

Maybole Bowling Club opened for the season on Saturday, April 20. The first jack was thrown by club president Elsie Hoggitt. The club are now looking forward to a good season.

Ballantrae Bowling Club also opened on Saturday.

Gib Agnew, President asked his wife Fay to throw the first jack of the season. The format for the day was President versus Vice-President with the President’s side winning overall. Winning triples were Gib Agnew, Peter Dodds and Elspeth King.

Lynne Hutchieson, daughter of president, Margaret Hutchieson, opened Crosshill Bowling Club for the 2013 season.
