Carrick Rugby enjoyed another victory on Saturday as they thumped Strathaven 136-12 to keep their promotion dream alive.
Carrick had already enjoyed a massive 126-5 win over the visitors this season and Strathaven travelled with some trepidation to Maybole.
They are rooted to the bottom of RBS West Regional Divison Two but it is to their credit that they have managed to put out a team every week that has suffered many defeats.
Carrick though have their own battles to fight after Oban’s point deduction by the vagaries of the SRU, so they were in no mood to be hospitable to their weakened visitors.
Within four minutes the game as a contest was over with two tries from Carrick’s dominant forwards.
Firstly Raymond Festorazzi was driven over by the pack and secondly after a Jamie Doolan charge from the kick off, Gordon Gregor in support of the break out scored under the posts.
Kyle Johnson converted both to give the home side the required flying start.
By half time another five converted tries had been achieved giving a 49-0 score line.
Carrick were in no mood to be merciful to their guests as they had thoughts about the promotion battle ahead and to be in a strong position to take advantage of any slip up by Garnock or Oban who are the favourites for the top spots.
Thirteen more tries were scored in the second half with Johnson converting all but two.
It is never a pleasure to see a team demolished in such a manner but the lads from Strathaven kept at it and their efforts were rewarded with two second half tries, one from an interception and the second from a well worked forward drive.
Next Saturday Carrick travel to high scoring fourth placed Cambuslang. To have any chance of promotion this is a must win game.
