Golfers in South Ayrshire will have the chance to compete in a Scotland-wide competition in celebration of this year’s Open Championship - from the comfort of their local course.
On the weekend of July 21 and 22, when the Open Championship takes place at Royal Lytham and St Anne’s in Lancashire, all players who get a hole in one could score themselves free tickets to one of the sport’s top events.
Organised by the Johnnie Walker Championship, each player who secures a hole in one in a recognised Medal or Stableford tournament - and can provide a scorecard verified by their club secretary - will receive four complementary tickets to the European Tour at Gleneagles.
Held between August 23 and 26, spectators will see top players - including Thomas Bjorn and Scots Colin Montgomerie and Scott Jamieson - in action.
Jamieson, who is also a tournament ambassador, said: “The Gleneagles setting for the Johnnie Walker Championship is one of the most picturesque we enjoy as professionals, and this is a great opportunity for spectators to enjoy the views without having to focus on their own score.
“I wish every golfer playing in their own club competition on July 21/22 good luck, and I look forward to all the hole in one winners joining the galleries in August.”
Johnnie Walker Championship Director, Graeme Marchbank, said: “The weekend of The Open Championship is one of the most exciting for professional golfers and we’re adding this incentive for club players in a year when it is not taking place here in Scotland.
“You may not play like Monty or Bjorn, however scoring a hole in one is a great achievement for any golfer and one that deserves to be celebrated.
“What better way to do just that than with a group of friends while enjoying the opportunity to see some of the world’s leading golfers here in Scotland as they tackle the challenges of The PGA Centenary Course at Gleneagles - the host venue for the 2014 Ryder Cup.”
