Closely fought games in invitational triples

On Saturday 18th May 69 local bowlers competed in an Invitation Triples Round Robin competition sponsored by Paul McIntyre.

Teams entered from Irvine, Ballantrae, Isle of Whithorn, Maidens and Girvan. Conditions could hardly have been worse with persistent rain all day, but the hospitality of the clubhouse was enjoyed between games, and the final was eventually played out between the Triples of Alf McHallum, Kevan McGuire, John Heron (Isle of Whithorn) and Craig Prophet, Brian Kilpatrick, Hugh Atkinson (Irvine Park), with the team skipped by Alf McHallum winning the day after an excellent, closely fought game considering the conditions.

At the presentation President Gary Milne thanked Paul McIntyre, proprietor of the Miners Arms, Plymton, Devon, for his generous sponsorship of the competition, together with all the teams for taking part, and everyone who helped make it a successful day.

On Sunday 19th May, the weather improved and members of Girvan Bowling club competed for the David Thompson memorial trophy. The final was played out between the pairs of Jim McPhater & Margaret Gaff, and Archie Wallace & Anne Bryce, with Jim and Margaret winning the trophy after a close game.

At the presentation, President Gary Milne thanked Irene and her family for their continued sponsorship of the event, and also thanked everyone who had contributed to the day.
