premiership champions Manchester United will send a side to face Ayr United in a glamour friendly at Somerset Park.
The match against Sir Alex Ferguson’s youngsters is a major coup for the Honest Men, who will be gearing up for their first game in the First Division after winning promotion.
The Champions League runners-up will send an XI to Scotland to play the newly-promoted First Divison side on Monday, July 25 with a 7pm kick off.
This game will provide people in Ayrshire the chance to catch a glimpse of the next generation of Old Trafford stars and also give the players the opportunity to test themselves against the best.
Star of Ayr’s promotion campaign Michael Moffat is delighted at the prospect of playing one of the world’s greatest clubs.
The former Girvan hitman said: “It is something to look forward to as we have the chance to play against stars of the future.
“As a young boy, I always dreamed of playing against the best and Man Utd are one of the top teams in the world.
“It is something that has excited the players and the fans so hopefully a big crowd turns out and everyone enjoys it.”
Ayr chairman Lachlan Cameron was equally as excited and said: “It’s a tremendous honour to have Manchester United visit.
“We are all really excited and we hope it will set us up well for a good season ahead of our return to the First Division.”
Sir Alex Ferguson played for Ayr United in the 1970’s and has not forgotten his roots as he is still on good terms with the club.
Cameron added: “Sir Alex Ferguson is a great friend of the club and we are grateful to him for his support in arranging this fixture which will allow our players the challenge of playing against the next Paul Scholes, David Beckham or Ryan Giggs.”
Entry to this fantastic spectacle is by ticket only. Details regarding the sale of tickets will be released in the next few days.
Admission prices to the game will be £15 for adults and £8 for concessions.
