On the final day of the season as the sun was fading amidst heavy rain, having fished for only ten minutes, Girvan Mains Fishing Club member David Mcvittie had a take.

After an hour and a half fight between him, the fish and the fast current the fish finally gave up, having been witnessed, netted, weighed and verified by club member Craig Sommerville, this fresh bar of silver weighed in at 14.5 lb.

The fish was allowed to recover and returned, allowing what has been a poor season on the Girvan to end on a high note.

David has for the second year running claimed the title for biggest fish, and this year as last the biggest two fish of the year.

President Peter Rafferty would like to thank all who have already donated raffle prizes and sponsorship to the Girvan Mains Fishing Club for 2013 season.

These included anonymous donations from Glasgow Angling Centre, Ultimate Angler, Pauls Barber Shop, Marks Butchers, the Mitchell brothers at the Hamilton Arms, John Stewart at the Victory Bar, recently passed member Ian Maguire, Billy and Yazmin at China Moon, ASDA Girvan, Peter Rafferty, Ricky Bye, David Mcvittie and finally Fae at the Queens Hotel for her donation, hospitality and allowing the club the use of the hotel, and to the Carrick Gazette for kindly keeping up to date with club info and printing catch reports.
